Town of Mayfield Highway Department Duties

The Mayfield Highway Department is responsible for maintaining and managing our local roadways and related infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient travel. Their key duties include:

  1. Road Maintenance: Repairing potholes, repaving roads, and maintaining road surfaces to ensure safe driving conditions.
  2. Snow and Ice Removal: Plowing snow and applying salt or sand during winter to keep roads accessible.
  3. Traffic Signage and Markings: Installing and maintaining road signs, traffic signals, and pavement markings for safety and navigation.
  4. Drainage and Culvert Management: Maintaining ditches, culverts, and stormwater systems to prevent flooding and road damage.
  5. Roadside Maintenance: Mowing grass, clearing debris, and trimming vegetation along roadsides to ensure visibility and safety.
  6. Bridge and Infrastructure Oversight: Inspecting and maintaining small bridges, guardrails, and other infrastructure within town jurisdiction.
  7. Emergency Response: Addressing road hazards (e.g., fallen trees, washouts) and supporting emergency services during crises.
